our life in TUSCANY
"The world is a book, and those who
do not travel read only a page."
Benvenuti (welcome) to the website of Lucy and Paul Spadoni! We first came to live in Italy from February through April in 2011 and we’ve since returned during the same months every year. From 2011-2015, we lived in San Salvatore, at the foot of the hilltop city Montecarlo, where Paul's paternal grandparents were born, raised and, in 1908, married.
In late 2015, we finally yielded to sweet temptation and bought our own home in Montecarlo. Now we come for a month during the fall as well as the months of February through April. We come for a variety of purposes. We want to re-establish contact with distant cousins. We love the challenge of learning the language and trying to live as Italians in modern Italy. We enjoy experiencing and adapting to different cultures. We chose Montecarlo not only because of the family connection but also because few people speak English, forcing us to learn Italian to get along. It’s also one of the little known jewels of Italy, considered among the top 10 hilltop towns in Tuscany, but not overrun with foreign tourists.
Tuscany is located in central Italy and reaches from the Apennines to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Now known for its beautiful landscapes, traditions, food and historical art, it was the center of the Italian Renaissance. Florence is the capital city of Tuscany and a popular and culturally rich place ripe for exploration. Wine, olive oil, art, history and rich landscapes all await you.
We welcome you to follow us through our adventures as we learn and communicate our experiences in Tuscany and the surrounding areas.
